SUMMARY A case is reported of an adult in whom a multicystic kidney was associated with a contralateral polycystic kidney. The diagnosis and the significance of the association are discussed. An injection study of the multicystic kidney showed intercommunication of the cysts. We should like to thank Professor R. Shackman for his permission to publish this case, Drs J. G. Azzopardi and E. D. Williams for helpful discussion and advice, Mr W Brackenbury for the photomicrographs and Mr E. G. Hamilton for the histological preparations.
