SUMMARY A method is described which results in better and clearer pictures on intravenous pyelography by applying abdominal compression prior to the injection of the contrast medium. Its use has been demonstrated and the probable physiological explanation of the findings discussed. It is felt that the safety, the simplicity and the minimal discomfort to the patient make such an investigation well justified, particularly before resort is made to retrograde pyelography or other more complicated procedures.
