SUMMARY1 After a brief description of the vascular system and the lobulations of the kidney, these two anatomical systems have been correlated. 2 The areas of kidney tissue supplied by the five segmental arteries correspond on the surface of the organ to certain of the lobulations. 3 The areas of kidney tissue drained by the lobar veins are demarcated on the surface by the lobar clefts. 4 Brödel's line lies posterior to the longitudinal groove, but corresponds with the plane of the anterior surface of the posterior hilar calyces. 5 The anatomical associations of the vascularisation and lobulation of the kidney are discussed in relation to the operation of partial nephrectomy.
