SUMMARY Despite the complications which we have experienced, we consider that Cordonnier's ileocystostomy may bring valuable relief in neurological disturbances of the bladder and in rare diseases accompanied by urinary incontinence for which there is no other solution. Our technique for this operation is described in detail. A satisfactory ileostomy appliance is the “Chiron” ureterostomy apparatus W.92 with rubber flange, without diaphragm (St Mark's model W.62) (W.66 is a rigid one of the same model). I would like to thank Mrs M. V. Wetselaar‐Witthaker of the Department of Medical Illustration for Figures 8 to 11, and Mr C. Th. Ruygrok, Radiological Department of the University Hospital, Leiden, for the prints of the X‐rays.
