SUMMARY A case of interest from two points has been presented. First, it represents the smallest hypernephroma encountered at nephrectomy for cancer in the Toronto General Hospital. Secondly, it is the first hypernephroma which, to our knowledge, has been associated with an elevation of carcinogenic metabolites of tryptophan previously thought to be exclusive with tumours of transitinal‐cell epithelium.
