SUMMARY A case of gangrenous cystitis is presented. The original cystographic appearances were confused by the use of a non‐miscible, radio‐opaque solution that gave rise to false appearances. In view of the post‐operative retrograde pyelographic appearances, an original diagnosis of renal papillitis was considered, which might have led to the gangrenous cystitis. The radiological appearances, however, are not consistent with this diagnosis. It has not been possible to find a distinct cause, nor finally to control the urinary infection.
