SUMMARY1 Eighty‐two patients have been investigated for bacteræmia following prostatectomy. In only six was a positive culture obtained. 2 The most common offending organism was B. proteus , both as regards urinary infection and the bacteræmia. 3 The bacteræmia was found only in those patients who had pre‐operative catheter drainage. 4 The bacteræmia may be prolonged and even proceed to septicæmia. 5 No case with a sterile urine developed a bacteræmia.
