SUMMARY Seven cases of ileoplasty which showed a complication not described in the literature, viz., abnormal dilatation and elongation of the transplanted loop, are described. In two cases of ileovesicoplasty it was necessary to remove the loop totally or subtotally. In our opinion, ileoplasty is not the ideal method of enlargement of the bladder even on theoretical grounds, and an isolated piece of sigmoid is more suitable. For replacement of the ureter an isolated piece of ileum is probably the best solution for the time being, but there are drawbacks inherent in the method which should not be underestimated.
