SUMMARY Ureterostomy‐in‐continuity means urinary drainage through a 1.5 cm. longitudinal slit in the lumbar segment of the ureter. When no longer needed the catheter is withdrawn and the ureter readily closes and conducts urine to the bladder again. It is done unilaterally or bilaterally as required. and is a trifling trespass on the urinary tract. Possible indications are: (1) Therapeutic rest to a bladder, the site of inveterate cystitis, specific or non‐specific; (2) relief of renal retention: (3) defunctioning of a bladder due for formidable surgery.
