SUMMARY An attempt has been made to remove stricture of the urethra and to correct and prevent the complications of the condition by radical excision and reconstruction of the urethra, using a strip of buried skin. The results of the investigation are encouraging, and with achievement of greater technical ability many of the minor difficulties encountered should be overcome. The only real disadvantage of the operation to the patient is the long period of hospitalisation which may be necessary, two to three months being an average time, but most patients who have suffered severely for years are only too ready to seize on any suggestion which might offer them a hope of healthy life.
