SUMMARY The condition known as Fournier's gangrene is reviewed and the criteria necessary for diagnosis of this lesion are enumerated. A case illustrative of the condition is described. The retiology is discussed and the theory advanced that the disease may be caused by Stupk. aureus and an anaerobic streptococcus acting in symbiosis.
