SUMMARY Two cases of hydro‐ureter and hydronephrosis are recorded in which normal electrical activity was demonstrated in the dilated portion of the ureter 3 and 5 cm. from the bladder. No appreciable electrical activity could be recorded from the undilated portion of either of these ureters. These findings are interpreted to mean failure of normal peristalsis at the lower end of the ureter, which causes passive obstruction and slowly increasing dilatation of the ureter above the inactive segment.
