SUMMARY1 Six cases of primary epithelial neoplasm of the ureter, classified as 3 papillomata and 3 carcinomata, are reported. 2 The recent literature has been reviewed. There are on record 77 cases of benign tumour and 245 of carcinoma. 3 The clinical picture, diagnosis, and treatment of such tumours are discussed. 4 The retrograde spread of ureteric tumours to the pelvis of the kidney is postulated. Case 5 is considered an example of this form of metastasis. 5 The correct pre‐operative diagnosis is being made with progressively greater frequency. 6 There has been a considerable lowering of the operative mortality in this condition, but in the case of carcinomata few long‐term survivals have been recorded.
