Summary (1) A study of 50 cases of juxtarenal infection is presented. (2) These have been classified anatomically into perinephric and paranephric types. (3) Each is further subdivided into primary or hæmatogenous infections and secondary, due to spread from contiguous disease. (4) The ætiology, pathology, clinical features, prognosis and treatment of each, but particularly of the primary perinephric lesions, are considered. (5) It is suggested that the great majority of the latter are due to primary bloodstream infection and the kidney is entirely normal.
