Summary This case demonstrates the beneficial effect of drainage upon a badly infected and obstructed renal system. If the anatomical relations of the left ectopic kidney to the vena cava and the aorta had been known prior to operation, a nephrectomy of the displaced kidney mass would not have been considered. While the surgical procedure was palliative and conservative in character, it did provide drainage to the dystopic kidney. This uretero‐pelvic anastomosis enabled the patient to resume her normal activities in comparative comfort and undoubtedly extended her life span.
