Summary A comparison was made between 24 ‘professional isolates’ with a current practical interest in Antarctica and 19 other men from winter‐over parties at Scott Base. The results showed that the ‘professionals’ were the more self‐sufficient, but that both groups were composed of slightly introverted and well‐balanced individuals.
