Scarce information concerning gap junction modifications in liver cells is found in the literature. The fine details of gap junctions in the hepatocytes of the teleost Pimelodus maculatus fasting during 3 months are reported for the first time in the present study. In this experimental condition two forms of gap junction appear: a bulge‐like and a ring‐shaped form. The functional significance of these structures is discussed.
