Abstract The specialized spermatozoon of Squilla mantis (Crustacea, Stomatopoda) is round and non‐motile. It is surrounded by an electron‐dense coat, contains a small acrosomal complex, two centrioles consisting of nine doublets and few cellular organelles, while a nucleus sensu stricto is not recognizable. The plasma membrane shows some groove‐like characteristic invaginations. The morphology of this specialized gamete is discussed and compared with that of other Malocostraca.
