The uterine histology of wild rabbits caught in the non‐reproductive season in the Revinge area in southern Sweden was studied (as part of a larger study on the biology of the wild rabbit). The uteri of the yearlings—which do not reproduce—had a low weight and a juvenile histology with a relatively thick, cell‐sparse lamina propria and a weak muscular layer. After the breeding season the uteri of the adults gradually entered a regressed winter state, characterized by a well‐developed muscular layer, a thin, cell‐dense lamina propria and a low mucosal epithelium with few glands. A few yearlings that had ovulated shared this picture. The regressive state gradually disappeared in spring.
