Summary The management of a failed intubation in a nineteen‐year‐old patient suffering from Cockayne's syndrome is described. Use of a laryngeal mask prevented major anaesthetic morbidity. Cockayne's syndrome is reviewed including recent important developments in its aetiology and pathogenesis.;
