Summary The management of an insulin‐dependent diabetic child presenting for correction of complex congenital heart disease requiring cardiopulmonary bypass is described. A constant rate glucose infusion and variable rate insulin infusion, combined with frequent serum glucose measurements, allowed prompt response to the glucose alterations associated with surgery and cardiopulmonary bypass.
