This paper describes the International Association of Logopaedics and Phoniatrics, its aims and objectives. It highlights the links between that Association and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. An attempt is made to focus on a worldwide perspective, indicating the relatively small position of the world's communicatively handicapped population who have access to speech and language therapy services. Education, research and service delivery are considered, both from the perspective of the developed and developing world, including ways in which the underserved areas could receive help and support in the development of services.
