A preliminary study was initiated in order to audit some of the clinical and non‐clinical procedures taking place in a combined voice clinic run by a consultant laryngologist and a specialist speech and language therapist. Standards were set in relation to both areas of the service. As expected, the clinical standards were met, but the non‐clinical standards (which were out of the immediate control of the voice clinic team) were not. The results of the audit study produced valuable evidence for confirming the value of the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures being used. They also provided a basis for negotiating improved methods of service delivery where standards had not been met.
