The paper considers the peculiarities of fatigue crack propagation and final fracture of metals under cyclic loading. It is shown that the value of the fatigue fracture toughness of steels in an embrittled state is appreciably lower than that of the fracture toughness under static loading. A model of the transition from stable to unstable fatigue crack propagation is justified.
