— The problem of fatigue life predictions for variable amplitude loading is considered. A prediction model is proposed that is based on a level crossing count of the effective load, where the effective load is denned according to the crack closure concept. The proposed model is applied to block load sequences presented in the literature and compared to experimental data and other prediction methods. It can be concluded that, provided that the crack opening level can be determined, the model gives reasonable predictions.
