The threshold regime of a heterogeneous, pearlitic‐ferritic microstructure was investigated at R = 0.1. Not only did the Δ K th values vary depending on the test procedure in that d a /d N vs Δ K curves before and after Δ K th determination were not identical but transition Δ K values also differed. The observations are correlated with inherent micro‐ structural features.
