— A model is proposed for calculating the fatigue crack opening load based on the concept of residual strain in the overload plastic zone. An equation relating the fatigue crack opening load to loading parameters is given. The model is used to evaluate the retardation effect due to overload under various loading conditions. It is found that the calculated results agree with test data.
