A similarity criterion for fatigue failure is proposed for stress concentrations. This criterion is based on the relative stress gradient at the point of maximum stress and the length of the boundary of the area suffering maximum stress. Should a specimen and a component have different sizes and shapes but an identical similarity condition to the one proposed in this paper then the fatigue strength distribution functions are practically the same.
