Ninety‐six women with cervical pathology underwent Cartier loop biopsy at Christchurch Women's Hospital, during the first 6 months of 1987. Eighty‐four (88%) patients had full follow‐up past 11 months, of whom 10 (12%) had dysplasia/CIN. Initial follow‐up (3–8 months) was achieved in 91 (95%) patients, of whom 11 (12%) had dysplasia/CIN. Follow‐up was predominantly by cytology. These rates were not significantly influenced by any single preoperative or operative factor. The implications of these results are discussed.
