A retrospective analysis of 785 cases of caesarean section was performed, over a 2‐year period. The caesarean section rate was 6.96%—primary section rate being 6.14% andrepeat section rate, 0.82%. The commonest indications for caesarean section were dystocia (2.67%), malpresentation and malposition (1.16%), previous section (0.82%), fetal distress (0.73%) and antepartum haemorrhage (0.63%). A critical discussion on the rates and indications for caesarean section was done. For a reduction in caesarean section rates a re‐appraisal of section for dystocia is essential.
