A 29‐year‐old Chinese housewife with a 7‐year history of Wilson's disease complicated by severe ataxia, hepatic cirrhosis, splenectomy, allergy to penicillamine and 2 spontaneous abortions, was referred at 23 weeks gestation in her fourth pregnancy which was conceived within a month of a 3‐month course of treatment with zinc sulphate 450 mg daily. She delivered at 37 weeks of a 2,700 g female baby. As zinc has been used successfully as an alternative to chelating agents in non‐pregnant patients, it may become a useful drug for treating pregnancy patients with Wilson's disease in place of penicillamine.
