A prospective survey of patients booking for antenatal care at the Prince of Wales Hosptial was performed, to ascertain the prevalence of intestinal parasitism in such patients, to assess the socio‐demographic factors which may contribute to infestation and to estimate the contribution of intestinal parasites to anemia of pregnancy in the New Territories of Hong Kong. Parasites were found in 19% of stools of all patients but the prevalence in the immigrant population from the Chinese mainland was 40% compared to only 7% in those women born in Hong Kong. The incidence of anemia was no different in patients with parasitic infestation than those without.
