Abstract Twenty‐four eclamptic pregnancies over a 6‐year period were studied. These pregnancies were associated with a high incidence of certain antenatal complications, especially hyperemesis gravidarum, vaginal bleeding and urinary tract infection. There was also a high incidence of fetal abnormalities, including 2 cases of hydrops fetalis due to haemoglobin Bart's disease. The occurrence of these complications should alert the obstetrician to monitor these pregnancies carefully for the subsequent development of pre‐eclampsia and eclampsia.
