The clinical profile of patients with hydatidiform mole admitted to the Philippine General Hospital is presented. In this study prophylactic chemotherapy for hydatidiform mole had its advantages and its risks. It reduced the development of post‐molar non‐metastatic trophoblastic disease (NMTD) and metastatic trophoblastic disease (MTD). However, it also showed that toxicity to methotrexate could be severe even with the first course. At the Philippine General Hospital the authors found it advisable to limit its use to patients who are at greater risk of developing trophoblastic sequelae.
