Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) diagnostic criteria for obstetrics as a clinical scoring system were established. These criteria, in which more weight was given to the underlying disease and to clinical findings than to laboratory parameters (coagulation tests), agree closely with the DIC diagnostic criteria of the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare. Efficacy evaluation criteria for obstetric DIC were also defined to enable follow‐up of the clinical efficacy of DIC therapy. The clinical usefulness of these criteria was confirmed by comparison of infusion efficacy between AT III concentrate (Behring‐werke AG) and injectable FOY? (Ono Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) for the 38 DIC cases with abruptio placentae collected here. The total score, FDP score, and platelet score were improved markedly in the AT III group compared with the FOY group.
