The anticellular activity of recombinant human interferon γ (RelFN‐γ) against cultured human cell lines established from gynecological malignancies was compared with that of natural human fibroblast interferon‐β (IFN‐β) and the in vitro anticellular action of RelFN‐γ was characterized. The anticellular spectrum of ReIFN‐γ' against 8 gynecological cancer cell lines was basically similar to that of IFN‐β, though RelFN‐γ was more effective in inhibiting the growth of these cell lines. It was also revealed that the inhibitory activity against cell growth induced by ReIFN‐γ was relatively long‐lasting and stable, and that RelFN‐γ but not IFN‐β had cytotoxic activity.
