A typical late deceleration was observed in a CTG monitoring of a woman in her 23rd week of pregnancy, with preterm labor. The pattern of the deceleration gradually changed to that of early deceleration, and finally disappeared as the pregnancy progressed. Fetal development was normal throughout the pregnancy, and a viable infant was delivered. The significance of late deceleration occurring at mid‐term pregnancy may differ from that occurring in late pregnancy, and may reflect physiological development of the fetus at the time.
