Complement titers were measured in threatened abortion and toxemia of pregnancy. Components of the alternative pathway were suppressed in abnormal pregnancies compared to that of normal pregnant women. Decreased CH 50 were also observed but there were no changes of C 4 levels in the cases of pregnant patients with complications. Extracts from human chorionic villi activated serum 50% hemoly‐sis of the alternative pathway. These results suggested that the alternative pathway is mainly influenced in abnormal pregnancies.
