The cases of menorrhagia in the absence of pelvic or other pathology, seen and managed at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, over a six year period (1975–1980) are reviewed with a view to appraising the rational and effectiveness of medical (drug) and surgical management. The results suggest a haphazard approach in management in a majority of the cases. Suggestions are hereby made for consideration of an organised approach to both the diagnosis and treatment of these cases.
