The relationship between the intrapartum use of oxytocin and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia was investigated. Twenty full‐term infants born after spontaneous vaginal labour and twenty term infants born after an accelerated labour by oxytocin, were included in the study. The results showed that there is a definite dose related association between the intrapartum administration of oxytocin and the subsequent development of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. The possible factors entailed in the development of this oxytocin related hyperbilirubinemia are discussed.
