The accuracy of in utero fetal weight prediction employing a multiple regression equation involving the biparietal diameter and abdominal circumference was evaluated in 101 Chinese patients. The coefficient of correlation between the actual and estimated weight was 0.9825. The absolute mean error was 3.4%, 94% of the estimates fell within 10% of the actual birth weight and the distribution of over and underestimates was well balanced along the whole range of weights. It was concluded that the use of such established equations can be a very practical and accurate method for fetal weight prediction in the Chinese population.
