From January 1974 to December 1978, 1221 endometrial biopsies were performed as a part of infertility work up. Seventy cases were lost of follow up. Of the remaining 1151 cases the histologic findings were as followed: secretory endometrium corresponded to the phase of the cycle 516 (44.83%), luteal phase defect 143 (12.42%), prolong proliferative phase 170 (14.76%), unclassified secretory endometrium 63 (5.47%), anovulatory endometrium 162 (14.07%), cystic and adenomatous hyperplasia 31 (2.69%), miscellaneous 66 (5.61%). Twenty five pregnancies occurred in the biopsied cycles. Eight cases were lost of follow up. Seven out of 17 cases aborted (41.17%). There were 12 cases of pelvic infection, one of which was serious that required total abdominal hysteroctomy.
