Since 1974, a system of registration and follow‐up of patients with hydatidiform mole has been used. The results obtained with it were assessed. The excretion patterns of HCG were analyzed and about 10% of the patients were treated as having malignant sequelae. About 60% of them were categorized into an undetermined group who achieved remission with only primary chemotherapy. The incidence of histological choriocarcinoma decreased following introduction of the system. The prognosis of patients with choriocarcinoma has been improved owing to earlier treatment. A long latent period and the presence of metastases render a significantly worsened prognosis. The system was established as being effective for improving the prognosis of trophoblastic disease and it is also suggested as being useful for further studies to determine the etiology of trophoblastic disease.
