An abnormal foetus causing dystocia in labour is rare. A case of a thanatophoric foetus causing obstructed labour is described. Until recently this form of short‐limb dwarfism has been misinterpreted as a severe immature form of achondroplastic dwarfism. The typical features of this foetal abnormality are detailed and the literature on the subject is briefly reviewed. The importance of recognising the condition for purposes of genetic counseling is stressed .
