In developing countries urinary fistulae of obstetric origin form 85‐95% of all bladder fistulae. A study of 262 urinary fistulae of obstetric origin seen in Government Erskine Hospital, Madurai (India) is presented. All of them were due to obstructed labour. The midvaginal fistula was commonest but the juxtacervical fistulae were mostly seen in multiparous women. In 10% there was associated faecal incontinence. In 85% vaginal repair was successful at first attempt. Only 2 were repaired abdominally and in 3 ureterosigmoidostomy was done. There was no death in this series.
