This article identifies the role of research in follow‐up of the Second World Assembly on Aging (Madrid, Spain, 2002). It briefly describes the Research Agenda on Aging for the 21st century, which has been developed to support the major policy document adopted by the Second World Assembly – the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging.
