Mental health of elderly in the Asia–Oceania region

The mental health of the elderly can be conceptualized through universal values that facilitate, promote, and maintain it. The provision of care for the mentally disordered elderly is discussed with reference to a WHO/WPA Consensus statement. Examples of services available in China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Singapore are given in line with the expectations contained in the Consensus statement. Conclusions of a positive view that the region has the potential to provide quality service for the mental health of the elderly.
