The title of this Editorial reflects a statement made by a former colleague more than a decade ago. The menta lhealth nursing students we were teaching had to choose an elective subject from one of three specialty areas. Aged care almost did not run because so few students chose it. My colleague expressed his concern that so few mental health nurses appeared interested in a career in aged mental health and the closer he was to being an ‘older person’, the closer to home this was becoming
