Strategies for the evaluation of the post infarction patient need revision in the light of recent findings from thrombolytic trials, and the availability of more effective methods for detecting myocardial viability. A strategy based on determining the risk of re‐occlusion from vessel anatomy at coronary angiography and determining the area of myocardium at risk based on sequential analysis of ST segment elevation is discussed.
