We report a patient whose severe recurrent anemia was due to overt and occult hemorrhage from peptic esophagitis. Cimetidine treatment was successful for seven years but dose reduction was followed by intractable hemorrhage which did not respond to H 2 ‐receptor antagonists. Omeprazole therapy produced dramatic remission of symptoms and anemia.
